Stereotypical Selling

Women

These magazines are supposed to be directed at women but the truth is
that; 35+ males like this type of stuff (half naked women)

Ethnicity - is white & black males depends on what the females race is.

Social Grade - High Class for all because of what there wearing and because of who they are and one of the magazines (Kim) comes from a rich family.

Men
The people to look at these pictures are teenage girls because of what these guys look like; good looking and fit with a six-pack. some guys will look at this because they aspire to look like this.
Ethnicity - black and white females. depends if the magazine has a black or white guy on it.
social grade  - they all look working class because of what there wearing.

This is a different magazine cover. this is directed at black males around the age of 13+
Ethnicity - Black males
Social Grade - There is a little high and low class because one is wearing gold chains and the other is wearing something to cover his face which also says that he's violent and dangerous

Mock Exam Dirt

DIRT;

1) Identify organisation who age rates games in the UK - Video Standards Company

2) Two reason why a film company would release a video game linked to a film - Young people would play it and would want to watch the movie and the film company make more money

3) Blumler and Katz knew that people love the entertainment, it offers a distraction from the world for a bit like the lego movie the game will exactly the same, packed with excitement and tension, the narrative is to be the hero and defeat the villain (Lord Business), this will appeal to young people as its simple and straight forward to do.
The relationships theory is that you can find bits in the movie you liked and talk to people about it, same with the game, you buy it then recommend/tell them its good then you can try play it together.
Personal identity; the game will probably make you choose some decisions like the lego movie and could change the whole game/story-line. You could change the look/personality to look like you so you feel like your the hero. The main characters are going to obviously have more value than people in the background. In other words, you can learn the difference between good & evil through the characters narrative and events.
Information; They want you to watch the movie before you play the game. you can take away things you know from the movie and carry it over. It also tells you about the characters themes events and narratives.

3) The posters follow action genre codes in a way that will attract and audience.
Colour palates have normal stereotypical colours for the characters
Villian - Red and black
Hero - Blue and white
Bad Girl - black and crazy hair
These colours show what the narrative will be like and the family audience will like the idea of good vs evil. the colour palette follows action genre codes because a lot of action posters. majority of action films used that colour pallet
Images represent what the movie will be like and represents people in the audience in different ways like for example emmet, his face expression as scared and does not come across as the hero. Wild Style (Lucy) has the facial expression as a normal women. Lord Business has the face of a villain

. Lego on its own attracts the family audience because its an animation

L/O; Blumbr & Katz researched how and why people select certain media Products over others

They came up with 4 main rules:

  • Entertainment; offers distraction from the world
  • Personal Identity: helps up consider who we are; what ideas and values we identify with.
  • Relationships: we find things we can share and discuss with others
  • Information: new information we want yo know or take pleasure in knowing
